COPPER
Copper is one of the most important industrial metals. Copper: 1982 was the last year copper was used to make pennies. Copper is used in electrical power cables, electrical equipment, automobile parts - mainly radiators, rooftops, cooling and refrigeration tubing, heat exchangers, artillery shell casings, water pipes, and jewelry data cables. Copper is an excellent conductor of electricity. Copper resists corrosion from the air, moisture and seawater. Large deposits of copper ore are located in the United States, Chile, Zambia, Zaire, Peru and Canada. The Roman Empire received much of their copper from Cyprus, the name being cuprum, which means 'from the island of Cyprus'. Copper is easily alloyed with metals such as brass and bronze. The new pennies are zinc with a copper coating.
